Utah Freedom Memorial - Sandy, Utah

Utah Freedom Memorial was a project devoted to "Educating our youth to the cost of freedom".  This memorial stands in front of Sandy City Hall in Sandy City, Utah.  It was many years in the making due to budget, location and a variety of hurdles. The inspiration to create this monument was inspired by Tony Galvez, the father of Adam Galvez, who served our country as a Marine in Iraq and lost his life in 2006.  Tony was determined to create awareness to the cost of freedom.  Tony contacted Paul Swenson of Colonial Flag in Salt Lake City, Utah to discuss the possibilities of creating awareness with a monument.  Paul brought Van Schelt Design into the project where I was honored to be given the assignment to design and art direct this project and help make it a reality.  We can not do enough to honor our fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price as well as those men and women who have served and those who continue to serve our great country.

San Leandro, California - Public Service Monument

In Honor Of Those Who Protect and Defend - May, 2006

Monument Arts, a division of Colonial Flag Company in Sandy City, Utah pursued a request for qualifications (RFQ) written by Danial Bolz and was awarded the San Leandro, California - Public Service Monument project in October of 2006. After a few flights to San Leandro, California we gathered enough research to go to work designing and constructing the various elements to pull it all together.  Design and production artwork was produced by Perry Van Schelt. Artist, Dan Cummings of Spectrum Studio specializes in glass and stone work and coordinated the effort with the production team.  Mark Degraffenreid, an exceptional Utah sculptor produced all the bronze work.  It was truly a labor of love.
